We welcome volunteers with all skill sets, but especially people looking to live a more natural, true and conscious life.  You can stay from a week at a time to much longer as part of our community.

We ask for 5hrs of your day, Mon – Fri and have weekends off to explore Portugal, unless there is an event being hosted that weekend, in which case you will be given 2 days off during the week instead.  All food and accommodation is included, but you do have to find your own way to Project Roots.  We are aiming to growing most of our own food, in an organic and sustainable way and our kitchens will be mostly vegan, apart from eggs and honey we plan to produce ourselves.

We are currently looking for volunteers with building, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, water management, and Eco and sustainability skills.  Once we have built our compost toilets, showers and outdoor kitchen we will be able to accommodate other volunteers with other skills. At this point we’d be very interested in volunteers who have permaculture, gardening, bee-keeping, painting and decorating, plumbing, electrical, office/admin, marketing, and photographic/video skills also, but we welcome anyone willing to help the project flourish in any way they can.

We serve the most delicious, highly nutritious and healing foods, so if you are looking to heal your gut, improve your mood, balance your hormones or increase your energy whilst volunteering, then you are coming to the right place!

If you are interested in volunteering please will out our contact form here, with as many details as possible about your skills and interests and also the rough dates you are available.

The easiest way to reach us it by flying into Lisbon airport and getting a beautiful direct, 3hr train ride across country to Fundao, we are then 25 mins drive/taxi ride from there.

Postcodes in rural Portugal don’t always get you to where you want to be, GPS Coordinates in Google Maps do though (good old Google Maps)!

If you fly into Lisbon airport you can get a direct, short and cheap metro to Lisbon/Lisboa Oriente train station.  Here you can get a direct and beautiful train ride (book through this website here) to Fundao (it’s take 3.5hrs and goes 3 times a day – with non direct trains leaving in-between and taking longer).  From here you can get a bus or taxi to us 25 mins away.  There is also a bus direct from Porto to Fundao but this runs less often but still daily, you can find out more about it here.

Please, do not just turn up, prior agreement is essential as we can only accommodate a few volunteers at a time and are not open all year round!
